Please keep in mind that the following lovely report was originally contributed by my great-grandfather. I just image that the meeting and great display took place at the school house. I wonder what they did with their “trophies” after the event. And how much Mr. Hartman earned for his efforts…

Doings at Liberty Hill
The Liberty community club met Friday May 18 to talk over business of a public nature and to pay the premiums offered for rat scalps. Odill Hartman proved to be the champion rat killer of the community; he had on display 456 rat scalps.
Other competitors swelled the total to 666 scalps exhibited and others reported the loss of their collection which would swell the total to near 1,000; more fine work toward rat eradication.
The big rain last Thursday night put the farmers on the bum again. Nothing to do and it is too muddy to go anywhere so we have to stay at home and nurse our grouch; we can’t even curse the government for our troubles.
