News of the Boys
Durant,Okla.- Dec. 11- Word was received here today that Sergeant Calvin R. Bryant had died from wounds received in battle. Bryant was well known all over this section, having played football with the Southeastern State Normal team here for three years. He also played professional baseball with the Texas and Oklahoma League. Details of his death were not learned, but the last information received of him was that he had been gassed in battle.
Elmer Keith
The family received a message Wednesday from Washington announcing that Elmer Keith died October 8th, in a hospital in France, the result of serious wounds received in battle. Elmer was the son of Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Keith who was raised in Caddo. He was well thought of by all who knew him. He left Caddo last June with the contingent that went to Camp Bowie and was with the 36th Division. The Herald and all friends of the family will sympathize with them in their grief, but they have the satisfaction of knowing that their boy was a true American; that he fought manfully and that when the time came for him to make the supreme sacrifice he did not flinch or whimper. He was a son to be proud of.
