75 Boosters from Caddo
With auto horns blowing and pennants flying from fifteen autos, the Caddo boosters, seventy-five strong, arrived in the county seat today noon. The boosters are out on an advertising expedition, advertising the Fifth Annual Caddo Corn Carnival, which will be held in Caddo on August 20-23.
The cars were driven to the Atwood Hotel where the boosters alighted and marched back up the street to the corner of Main and Third. The Caddo band of eighteen pieces led the boosters, rendering music. Several pieces of music were played, after which they were served with dinner at the café.
Directly after dinner the party again formed in line and paraded Third Avenue where the band played for some time, after which Hon. J. T. McIntosh delivered a speech of welcome in which he complimented the party upon their enterprise and the creditable showing made, paying a tribute to the party who had made the Caddo Corn Carnival a success.
Claude Smith, a well known attorney of Caddo, responded in which he thanked the citizens for the courtesy extended and for the whole-souled manner in which they were met by the people of Durant. Both these addresses were short but were appreciated.
W. F. Dodd, J. W. Crutchfield, and H. T. Chiles were in charge of the party and they report having met with a warm welcome at each stop on their journey. The party left Caddo this morning at 9:30.
After dinner the different members of the party passed out advertising literature and at 2 o’clock departed for places in the southern part of the county. They will spend the night in Denison, Texas, returning tomorrow by way of Bennington, Bokchito, and other towns in the eastern section of the county.
County Judge Rappolee, an old-time citizen of Caddo accepted an invitation to go with the party and he accompanied them from here.
While in the city this morning the committee made arrangements with the Durant league team to play Denison three games at the carnival. The two teams will be held together after the season closes on the 18th, and will play a game each day of the carnival at Caddo. Durant Democrat
