Kenefick Druggist Shot by Burglars
Marion Winters, proprietor of a drug store at Kenefick, was shot through the left arm and left side when he discovered two men in the act of robbing his drug store Thursday midnight. The burglars then ran from the store and escaped without the loot they expected to get.
Winters was painfully but not seriously injured, the bullet passing through the flesh in his side without striking any bones.
When questioned by Sheriff Taylor, Winters said he had left the store, but remembering something he had forgotten, he went back after it. He said he had arrived at the store about 12 o’clock and finding the door open, slipped in, but one of the burglars who was on guard got the drop on him, telling his partner to run, fired one shot at Winters, which struck him in the side, putting him out of the running for a few minutes. He gave the alarm when he was able, but his assailants had made their getaway.
Sheriff Taylor was at once notified and he with Deputy J. M. Etchinson went to Kenefick, where they have been working on the case. Two men were arrested and are being held on suspicion but Mr. Winters was unable to positively identify them as his assailants. The burglars had not opened the safe when disturbed by the proprietor and so nothing was missing from the store. More arrests are expected in the case.
