Star Lights
Married: On the 26th of October, 1876, Mr. E. T. Morgan to Mrs. Harlan, widow of the late James Harlan, near South Canadian.
Col. E. C. Boudinot called on us a few moments while on his way to Tishomingo to attend the funeral of Dr. Long.
We must not forget to congratulate the Chickasaw Nation on the election of Capt. Joshua Hightower as superintendent of public schools. Capt. Hightower is eminently qualified for the position and will no doubt give the most perfect satisfaction.
The ball of Mrs. Sims was well attended and all went off delightful.
Married: In Sherman, Texas, November 6, 1876, Mr. Potter Hammer of Caddo to Miss Hannah Anderson of Brooklyn, New York.
The President’s Proclamation
I, Ulysses S. Grant, President of the United States, do recommend to the people of the United States to devote the 30th day of November next to the expression of their thanks and prayers to Almighty God and laying aside their daily avocations and all secular occupations to assemble in their respective places of worship and observe such day as a day of thanksgiving and rest.
