Caddo in Dark as Result of Heaviest Storm in History

Caddo was in darkness for several days as a result of the worst sleet storm and freeze in its history. Light lines went down Thursday night and due to the lack of means of communication, work was not started by the Okla. Gas & Electric Co. until Friday night.

Since that time, however, heavy work has been done with extra crews from Paul’s Valley, Shawnee, Sulphur, and other cities coming in to help the crews of this district. Little sleep or rest has been had by these men who are kept busy trying to keep the towns about the county lighted and trying to keep all dangerous wires up.

Among those who have been working here are I. H. Patterson of Durant, Johnny Moore, of Durant, A. R. Boyett, of Ardmore, C. L. Dunning, Ardmore, J. Fryer, Ardmore, Jerry Cronin, Oklahoma City, Bulldog Palmer and L. A. Wise, both of Durant.

The power plant at Durant has had to take over the load several times during the week when the line between Ardmore and Durant went down. For this reason the plant at Durant has been kept fired up day and night since Thursday.

 

High School Tournament Dates are Announced by STC

Durant, Jan. 15- February 11, 12, and 13 are dates announced for the Southeastern Teachers College high school boys’ invitational basketball tournament, James M. Culberson, director of athletics, has announced.

Dates for the girls’ invitation tourney will be January 22, Culberson says.

The college basketball team will play a conference game following the finals in each tournament, Basketball coach Jim Loveless states with the Savages scheduled to meet the East Central Tigers on Jan. 22 and the Oklahoma City University squad on February 13^th.

 

Funeral Services Are Held for L. V. Snider Tuesday

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at Pleasant Hill for L. V. Snider of that community, who died Monday afternoon in a Durant hospital after a brief illness.

The deceased was 22 years of age. He was born at Hayworth, Oklahoma. He was a member of the Baptist church and had for years been a faithful worker in his church. Rev. I. W. Archer, Baptist minister here, was in charge of the funeral with burial at the Pleasant Hill cemetery.

Those surviving Mr. Snider are his wife, mother, father, 2 sisters, and 4 brothers.

G. A. Crossett returned to Oklahoma City Tuesday to resume work after a brief holiday spent with his family here.

Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Rawls of Durant and Jack Stubblefield of Ardmore were Caddo visitors Monday night.

Harry B. Cordell, Head of Agriculture Board Dies

Harry B. Cordell, president of the state board of agriculture, died early Sunday morning in an Oklahoma City hospital as a result of a paralytic stroke.

Cordell, who was 65 years old, and serving his third term as president of the state board of agriculture, had been in ill health for the past year.
