The Caddo Herald
April 9, 1926
Seniors of ’26, by Mark Davis
Just think of a class of twenty-two,
And each one full of tricks—
A brighter bunch you’ve never seen
Than those Seniors of ’26.
First to my mind
Comes little Mary:
Although she’s tiny,
She’s awful contrary.
Oscar is a football star,
And captain of his squad;
To watch him make a touch-down,
Would make you wink and nod.
President of the Society,
Also a football boy;
Somewhat of a ladies’ man—
That’s Jake.
Eugenia is a basketball star,
And forward on her team.
To watch her pitch that ball,
Would make a fellow scream.
Margaret Jayne is mysterious.
Her eyes drift from earth to above—
Oh! Now I have it—
She must be in love.
Opal and Zora
Are bright as can be.
Isn’t it a pity
There aren’t three?
Madge, the actress
Has a dimple in her chin.
She is very jolly
And never cares about anything.
There’s Grady, Oh! Gee!
He’s rather small,
But that doesn’t hinder him
From playing football.
Willie is very shy,
But soon becomes acquainted.
A girl one day winked at him,
And they say he fainted.
To be sure there’s Charles:
Never looks uneasy;
Takes things as they come—
Fast and breezy.
Richard is silent,
Not much of a dude;
Seems to be thinking
Always of solitude.
Clovis, Caddo comedian.
Has won stage fame.
No doubt Caddo some day
Will be proud of his name.
Allene, the blonde of the class,
Is studious as can be;
She is one of the leaders,
That’s plain to see.
Dow is a bashful boy,
The girls make him feel shy—
Never mind: that will grow old
In the sweet bye-and-bye.
Oh, yes! There’s Lucille,
Full of wit.
When you tease her
She doesn’t carp a bit.
Alton is the funny boy,
Flowing over with fun;
Always up to something,
Keeps the teachers on the run.
Permelia studies much,
And is a geometry scholar.
In her footsteps,
Others ought to follow.
Thomas Ray likes basketball,
And also likes his books—
Seems as though some of the girls,
Rather fancy his looks.
Lillie Mae is little,
But—oh, my!—
She could be valedictorian
If she’d try.
Dadia’s always smiling,
People love to see her face,
And watch her walk about
With such bewitching grace.
William Mark, the big boy,
Who is six feet plus,
Takes life easy
And never gets in a rush.
Seniors, may you prosper
As you go through life.
And may your search be victory
For a husband or a wife.
