This doesn’t include any names and isn’t even about Caddo, but I couldn’t resist posting this just because of our current political issues. And remember this is the year Oklahoma became a state.
The Bryan County Democrat
September 20, 1907
The quiet way in which the election went off in Durant proves the high grade of citizenship of our people. No drinking, no fighting, nor anything else to mar the quiet of the day.
Voters went to the polls with a thoughtfulness that reminded the onlooker that they knew what they were about and that there was some responsibility attached to exercising the right of franchise.
Everybody was interested in the outcome and we are convinced that the voters were conscientious in their voting. They appeared to vote with a view to what they thought to be right.
This quiet did not come from a want of interest, but indicated a broad, liberal way of thinking, knowing that every man has a right to his own private opinion.
The interest of the people was intense and every man voted as if he were aware that he was to be responsible to a certain extent for the management of the affair of the new state.
