I think from time to time it’s good to take a break from history and look at what is going on in Caddo in the present. I drove downtown yesterday and bought a few items from Belinda at Craighead’s. She had three other customers. There were three cars parked in front of the movie theater and a couple at Norma’s. Someone was eating at the café and there was a car parked in front of the museum. A bit slow, but Saturday is a busy family day and it’s still too early for many tourists. I only hope that many of you reading this will make an effort to visit Caddo when you can. Look around, visit with old friends, spend a little money.
I also noticed that there are several building projects going on in town. Always good to see remodeling and new home construction. Even if local businesses are struggling, Caddo remains a great place to live and commute from. It’s also a good place to raise children and the school has an excellent staff. And don’t forget that Caddo would love for all of its former residents to come back home to retire!
I always love to see Caddo transform itself in the spring! People are out mowing and trimming and planting. I already see tomato plants set out in orderly gardens. Flowers are blooming everywhere. I can’t wait to see the next “Yard of the Month” winner.
If you are planning your vacation or family reunion please remember that this is the year for the Alumni Banquet. It will be scheduled for this fall and I should have all the details around the middle of June.
I took this photo of Caddo yesterday from a friend’s front yard.
