I am starting a new project for the library. I have no idea how long it will take me to complete it. However, I wanted to let you know about it and give you a brief preview. I'm typing the early records of the Bennington Church. I think it will be a valuable resource for names and dates as it contains births, deaths, baptisms, and membership information. It begins with 1849. It includes some information from other areas and other churches as members move and change.
I apologize for any misspellings of names. Before this is completed I will compare names to census and tribal listings for greater accuracy.
August 3, 1850
The Session of the Church met and was opened with prayer.
Present: C. Kingsbury, Minister
John Folsom, Jack Belvin, D. Perkins, Elders
Tunvpiahoma and his wife Aimaiina, presented themselves as candidates for admission to the church. After examination, resolved, that they be received.
Ellis Hogin with his wife Aitahehlahana and William E. Kelley presented themselves as candidates for admission to the church. After examination, resolved, that they be received.
The Session conversed with Samuel Fisher, who was before the Session in May last, charged with cruel treatment of his wife. This he denied at the time he was before the Session, but immediately after he went to one of the Elders and acknowledged that he had made a false statement and that he could find no rest until he had confessed his guilt both in beating his wife and then denying it. He has since appeared penitent and he hopes the Session would think favorably of his case and he hoped hereafter to live as becomes a disciple of the Blessed Savior.
In view of all the circumstance of the case, the Session resolved that a public statement be made before the church and congregation and that he be restored to his regular standing in the church. Closed with prayer. C. Kingsbury, Modr.
Omitted, to be entered on the last page.
Isaac Gardner, Rebecca Gardner, and Zachariah Gardner presented a letter from the Wheelock Church and requested to be received as members of this church. Resolved, that their request be granted before the close of the Session on the last page.
September 12, 1850. In Presbytery at Pine Ridge, Approved, Cyrus Byington, Mod.
