D. S. Smith, Son of Mr. and Mrs. O. A. Smith,
Drowns in Blue River
D. S. Smith, 17-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Smith of Caddo, drowned in Blue River just east of Armstrong on Saturday afternoon April 28th.
D. S., in company with Mike Hardy, had gone to the river for a swim but Mike had not gone in when D. S. went under. Mike, not too good a swimmer, was unable to help D. S. and could only summon help. More than two hours were required to find the body.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon at the Nazarene church with Rev. Thos. J. Edmonds in charge assisted by Rev. Lee Smith. The high school mixed chorus furnished the music and football teammates were pallbearers. Internment in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
Surviving are the brother and two sisters and his parents.
