Calera Wins From Caddo 30 to 21 Monday Night
Caddo lost, but it was a good game and gave the fans a heart-breaking experience Monday night in Caddo gym. Nearly 900 fans crowded into the gym to see this preview of county tournament to come. It was the largest crowed in many a day in Caddo. They came from all over the county: Durant, Calera, Achille, points outside and between; it was an orderly good-natured crowd who got a real thrill out of it.
Pop Gecks and his band gave an enjoyable concert which the crowd appreciated. Then young ladies passed a sheet around to get coin for the March of Dimes and folks tried their hands at pitching coins. Better than $40 in loose change was gathered. Miss Idell Seago was crowned as Queen of Basketball by T. J. Witherspoon in an impressive ceremony, surrounded by the band which played “Let Me Call You Sweetheart”.
Caddo juniors won from Calera; and the curtain raiser between Durant and Caddo juniors also was won by Caddo.
You might say it was a swell evening enjoyed by all, even tho there had to be losers.
