Max Robinson Dead-
Gear is in Prison
As a result of a disturbance on the streets of Caddo last Friday night Max Robinson is dead and Jess Gear is in Durant jail awaiting preliminary trial.
Robinson was shot through the breast about 10:30 Friday night, rushed to the Durant Hospital and died next morning at 10:30. The funeral was held at the Methodist church in Caddo Sunday afternoon at 3 o’clock, attended by a very large crowd of friends of the family.
Deceased is the son of Mrs. Lorena Robinson, was 23 years of age, was born and raised in and near Caddo. He is survived by his mother, C. D. Robinson, June Robinson, Mrs. Folsom, Mrs. Jim Goss, Mrs. Williams.
There is a great deal of talk concerning this case, feeling in quarters has run high, so The Herald will not attempt to give the full account of the affair. Robinson, in a car driven by Frank Summers, was riding west on Buffalo street, some say quite fast. Gear is night watchman in Caddo and he placed himself in front of the car and waved it to stop and upon the car getting quite close to him he discharged his revolver three or four times, one of the bullets striking Robinson. Other bullets entered the car.
Summers drove on west and called Dr. Dale, who came downtown and dressed the wounds temporarily and the wounded boy was rushed to the hospital.
Gear went that night into the sheriff’s charge. He is night watchman of Caddo and has made a very good officer; has a wife and several children.
The whole affair is very regrettable and sad.
