I apologize for not posting yesterday, but I spent three hours in ER. Nothing to worry about.
The Caddo Herald
April 29, 1910
For County Clerk
The Herald is authorized to announce S. E. Swinney as a candidate for re-election to the office of County Clerk of Bryan County.
We feel that Mr. Swinney needs no introduction to the people at hands of The Herald, because everybody knows Sam Swinney. He is just plain Sam Swinney, the same yesterday, today, and forever; the same as when he was prescription clerk and bookkeeper at Dodd’s drug store long before he thought of running for office. It has been said of him that the treats all alike, from the humblest to the highest who have business with his office, courteous and accommodating to all. These traits have made Sam Swinney one of the most popular men in Bryan County today.
He was born in Missouri and 29 years ago, when a mere child, moved to Texas, locating in Fannin County where he grew to manhood, attended the district schools of Fannin County and later the high school at Savoy, the Sate Normal and the Southern University.
In 1902 he cast his lot with Oklahoma, then locating at Madill where he had a position as prescription clerk in a drug store at that place; after a few months he came to Caddo and accepted a position with the Corner Drug Store where he remained until 1907 then he resigned in order to make the race for the office of Clerk of Bryan County. His popularity is attested by the fact that in this most hotly contested campaign he was nominated by a majority of 592 votes. That Mr. Swinney’s administration has been an efficient one there is no one who will deny; he has done his duty, and right well has he performed it. He does not believe that the good things that the party has to bestow should be continually showered upon one man, but that they should be passed around to others who are perhaps just as deserving and promises that if he is re-elected this time that he will not be a candidate for a third term. Herald believes that this is the right idea and we believe that the people will reward Mr. Swinney for his faithfulness to duty by giving him the second term. He deserves it.
