A Sad Accident
Wednesday evening at about half past five a o’clock Mr. C. H. Hogue accompanied by his wife, his wife’s mother, Mrs. G. S. Cobb, and Mr. Simon Cobb and wife was coming to the city in a farm wagon. When about two miles east of town, passing through a pasture, the front wheels of the wagon jolted sharply into a gully and the jar threw Mrs. and Mrs. Hogue, who were sitting forward in the wagon, off in front of the vehicle which passed over the bodies of them both, resulting in the almost instant death of Mr. Hogue and a serious injury to Mrs. Hogue whose chest was crushed by the wheel of the wagon besides other injuries. The deceased young man was age 24 years and was well known and much respected by a large circle of friends here and elsewhere.
On the second of June last, The Herald, published the intelligence of the marriage of these popular young people which occurred on May 31. It is with sentiments of profound sorrow that the report of the sad ending of a happy honeymoon is here chronicled so soon after. The sympathy of a host of friends goes out to the fair young widow so lately a bride, and in the sentiments of grief with her in her loss are mingled the sweet hope that she will recover from her injuries and that the great healer, time and trust in the inscrutable ways of a beneficent providence, may lessen her sorrow.
