I’m giving you two posts this morning: an obit and photos of my “home away from home”.  The genealogy library and the excellent  volunteers who work there are the reason I’m able to research so much about Caddo’s history and former residents.

Mrs. S. A. McCoy Dead

Mrs. S. A. McCoy, widow of Henry R. McCoy, died at her home in Sherman last Monday morning about 5 o’clock. She had retired the night before apparently in good health as could be expected of one her age. At 2 o’clock she woke up, sat up, but did not complain of any illness. At 7 o’clock her daughter went to her room and found her dead.

Mrs. McCoy was 83 years old, had lived in Sherman many years. Her husband died there in 1890. She leaves nine children to mourn her loss: Dr. I. C. McCoy of Fort Worth; D. and Alvy B. McCoy of this place who were in Sherman after her death was made known; Dr. C. and C. H. McCoy and Mrs. Frazier of Ardmore, Mrs. Wilder and P. W. McCoy of Wynnewood, I. T. and Miss Lizzie McCoy of Sherman. All the children were present at the funeral services.

Mrs. McCoy was well known in Sherman and many of her relatives are living in Caddo, among them are A. B. McCoy, Devotey McCoy, and Mrs. C. A. Bilbo, who have the sympathy of many friends in their intense bereavement. The Herald extends condolences.

Take your laundry to Smith’s barber shop.

That Symphony Lawn at Malone’s is wonderful.

Claude Smith was here Saturday and Sunday from Durant.

St. Clair Homer was a business visitor to Durant Thursday.

Embroidery club meets Wednesday with Mrs. W. L. Harrison.

W. O. Rowsey left Monday to spend a few weeks in Fort Worth.

When you buy that paper to write to your best friend see Malone.

Never was there such a line of writing paper in town as Malone has.

Sam Maytubby was up from Durant to spend Sunday with homefolks.

J. W. Crutchfield has been in Muskogee this week attending Federal court as a juror.

Mr. and Mrs. Carl Beaty and young son were up from Durant to spend Sunday with homefolks.

Mrs. Mattie Lynch was in Muskogee this week attending the bedside of her sister, Mrs. D. D. Lynch.

Rev. A. P. Johnson preached to a good sized congregation at Franklin schoolhouse Sunday afternoon.

There will be regular services at the Presbyterian Church next Sunday. S. J. McMurry, pastor.

Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Semple are the proud parents of a fine boy who came to their home in Durant last Saturday.

The subject of the morning sermon at the Christian church next Sunday will be “Losing the book” and for the evening discourse “the process of conversion”.

Rev. Edwards from Ada will preach next Sunday morning and evening at the Baptist church. All members are urged to come. Others are cordially invited to hear him.

We want to buy a few car loads of bois d’arc in sticks or blocks. Most any size or length will answer. See us about this. The Lingo-Leeper Co.

Attention is called to the farm loan adv. of Bert Ray. Bert is a hustler, has a good company, and if you are needing a farm loan it will pay you to see him.

E. C. Millon and A. U. Thomas from McAlester and Green T. Thompson form Durant were here last Friday attending the director’s meeting of the Security National Bank.

J. H. Green of San Antonio, brother, and Mrs. Genie Crain of Houston, a daughter , are here attending the bedside of Mrs. T. J. Carraway who is ill at the home of her son Postmaster R. H. Carraway.

Mr. Lloyd Long now has charge of the Prescription Department at the Corner Drug Store. He is a registered Pharmacist by examination. Do not hesitate to bring him your prescriptions. He knows how.

Had some pretty days the first of the week and farmers are getting ready to sow oats. If you’ll only notice it you will find that we have a great many more pretty days than bad ones in the course of a year.

Early Zion was here Monday from Matoy attending to business. While he has announced for sheriff, he says that before he puts much time into the race he must plant his crops. His friends are always glad to see him.

Mr. and Mrs. Jim Haley were in Caddo from Durant Tuesday.

Mrs. A. E. McCreary is visiting her daughter in Beggs, Okla.

Mr. and Mrs. A. O. Hood spent the Fourth on Mountain Fork.

Mrs. Gray Mumpower of Kingston, visited Roy Barber Sunday.

Mrs. J. C. Hogan has returned from a visit with her daughter in Paris, Texas.

Mrs. John Schenk and son have returned from an extended visit in California.

Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Baxter were in Tishomingo Saturday visiting her parents.

Mrs. J. D. Maytubby is at home to visit with her mother at Windom, Texas.

Mrs. Frankie Izard of Durant was the guest of Mrs. M. G. Downing Saturday.

Mrs. T. C. Williamson is in the Jones hospital at Sherman undergoing treatment.

Mrs. Lloyd Manning of Dallas was a house guest of Mrs. Louis Propps this week.

Mr. and Mrs. Harold Parker of Oklahoma City visited Mrs. C. A. Hancock the Fourth.

Mrs. and Mrs. Arvin Ellis were in Sherman Tuesday to have their son Jerry Joe treated.

Ernest Jackson Slack was in Caddo over the Fourth visiting his mother and friends.

Mr. and Mrs. Ben Ray Karnes, Dallas, spent Wednesday with his parent the W. T. Karnes.

Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hodges, who are attending school at Norman, spent the Fourth in Caddo.

Rev. A. S. Eggner of Allen and Rev. Lyman Eggner of Wetumka were here Friday on business.

Mr. and Mrs. Horace Sargent of New Orleans were guests of his mother, Mrs. Barnes, the Fourth.

Mr. and Mrs. Harry Pace and daughter Nancy of Abilene, were guests of Mrs. R. L. Pace Sunday.

Mr. and Mrs. R. T. Stuart from Oklahoma City are at their big ranch east of town for a stay of some time.

Mr. and Mrs. Joe Bass and two children from Muskogee were in Caddo Sunday, visiting Mr. and Mrs. Henry Bass.

Miss Linda Wood has returned from a visit with relative in Tulsa accompanied home by Miss Shirley England.

Opposition Is Losing

Just as The Herald had prophesied, the Republicans and Socialists over the state are mixing up like brothers and are forming combinations to beat the Democrats.  The smooth hand of the Republican leaders can be seen in their work but we don’t believe that the rank and file of either part will blindly follow their leaders. The Muskogee Phoenix this morning contained a statement from the chairman of the Republican Party in Muskogee in which he admitted that they had formed an alliance in Muskogee County and that two of the Republican nominees for representative would be withdrawn and given to the Socialists for their support on the county ticket.

That the same thing is being tried in Bryan County, there can be no question. It is among the leaders though, only, and we don’t believe that the rank and file of the Republican party will stand for any such trading. The Republican and Socialist leaders have been hobnobbing in this county for the past few weeks, and we are daily looking for some sort of announcement regarding the unitizing of the two forces.  

Democrats of Bryan County, the largest Democratic county in the state, must be awake to the fact that they are going to have to get out this fall, and get the Democratic voters to get out this fall and vote. Another thing- the “Socialist Unfair Election Law” must be killed, and it is time that the work was started. Let every committeeman attend the meeting here September 9. It will be good for his democracy.

Liberty Hill Items

The death angel visited the home of Mr. and Mrs. T. A. White and took from them Robert Griflin, age ten, a brother of Mrs. White. Robert had been with his sister two years; was a bright boy and his death was a schlock to those who knew him. Burial services was held Tuesday at Folsom cemetery.

Cotton picking is opening up and everybody is busy. Not time for howling, even our socialist friends here  quit howling and got busy.

Jim Nix has his wood saw in Caddo sawing winter wood for Caddo people.

C. W. Banta has finished hauling watermelons for this season.  He made $90 profit off of one and one half-acres of melons.

Sunday school was rained out Sunday.

Boydstun Buys Shop

Last week a deal was consummated where A. E. Boydstun became the owner of the old John Schenk blacksmith shop near the Rowsey & Wilson gin. Mr. Boydstun will move into the new shop this week and will do business in the John Schenk stand . He will place an efficient workman in charge of the shop so that all kinds of work will be competently handled. He will be better prepared to give you the best service possible and invites you to come and give a trial.
