The Lesson of Ford

Ford reduced prices on his cars of $50 in the face of a market that his factories could not supply. He did it without reducing any wages, and without cheapening his product. He did it by treating his labor fairly, and by his labor putting forth fullest efforts for the money paid them and by quantity production.

While other cars are sold with effort, Fords sell themselves and almost run themselves. They are an acknowledged quality product and the best for the money to be had.

To get a Ford now, one has to order ahead.

District Conference

The Durant Conference of the Methodist Church was held at Grace Church Tuesday and Wednesday. J. P. Washburn was given license to preach. The program was very helpful and inspiring throughout. Dr. Selecman, president of S. M. U., delivered two informative and timely sermons.

R. L. Williams, J. P. Washburn, Mrs. M. E. Mackey, E. H. Nelson, Mrs. W.Y. Switzer, G. A. Crossett, Fred Armstrong, and G. H. Moran were chosen delegates to Annual Conference. G. A. Crossett and E. H. Nelson were re-elected district lay leaders.

Husband Shoots Wife

V. E. Sampson, mail carrier of Coleman, 20 miles north, and his wife, are dead as the result of a family quarrel shortly after noon Monday. Louis Cochran, brother of Mrs. Sampson, is in jail at Tishomingo on a murder charge.

According to reports here, Sampson and his wife had been separated since Saturday, Mrs. Sampson living at the home of her mother, Mrs. Cochran, three miles west of Coleman. Monday Sampson went to the Cochran home and as his wife came out of the house to go to a well he shot her three times, killing her instantly.

Mrs. Cochran rushed into the yard to help her daughter and Louis Cochran then shot Sampson, killing him. Both bodies were found in the yard by officers from the sheriff’s office.

Sampson was 30 years old and his wife was 28. They leave a child 4 years old.

Fred Jones Burns to Death Thursday Nite

Last Thursday night after the family had gone to bed they were awakened by their home being afire. Hastily they got out and removed some articles of furniture. On returning for some more, Mr. Jones was caught by falling timbers and severely burned so that he died Friday afternoon at 4 o’clock.

The body was taken to the home of C. W. Jones, his mother, in town, and cared for as much as possible. The burns were so severe, however, that his life was early despaired of.

By almost superhuman efforts on his part and that of one of his girls he was saved from cremation in the building. The home is three miles northwest of town.

Mr. Jones was a prosperous farmer, owned his place and had lived there many years. He provided well for his family of wife and five children; one was a graduate of Caddo High School and was attending Durant Normal at the time. He was well thought of as a citizen, was a member of the Christian Church.

The funeral was held at the residence of C. W. Jones in Caddo Friday afternoon at 3:00 o’clock.

The family have received the condolences of the entire community at their loss.

Glasscock Garage

Claude Glasscock sold his garage this week to messrs. Snell & Howard, who took charge Wednesday morning. Claude has not yet decided upon what he will do next, but he will remain in Caddo some time anyway.

To My Friends

I have sold my garage business to E. B. Snell of Ada and Posey Howard of Bently, who will continue the business at the old stand. Mr. Snell will be in charge, assisted by Bill Nolen and I recommend them as experienced garage men who will treat you as near right as possible.

I wish to thank my many friends for their business in the past, assuring you that I shall ever remember Caddo kindly wherever I may be.

You will find the same courteous service under the new management as you have had. Just phone 21 for service cars or repairs.

Ku Klux Visit the Nazarene Meeting

Sunday night fourteen robed members of the Ku Klux Klan visited the Nazarene meeting, giving the Hudsons $15 in money and a letter to read, asking to be dismissed with prayer. In the letter several significant statements were made, these being the most prominent:

“The day has passed when the husband whips his wife; or the alley rats make unkind remarks about our wives, mothers, sisters and friends; the bootlegger must go; and you who make a habit of disturbing public worship, beware; our eyes are upon you.”

If Klansmen were not good men they could not subscribe to such good principles.

 

K.K.K. Visit Freeny

Rev. Roy J. Jacobs held services at Freeny Chapel Sunday, Oct. 23^rd.

He reports that during the night service, seventeen robed members of the order of Ku Klux Klan visited the church and presented as a contribution to the church, $15.

He and the church heartily thanks the Klan for the money and the visit.

Resolutions of Respect

Upon the passing, Dec. 20, 1924 of Isaac Powell.

Whereas, the Grand Architect of the Universe has called from the scenes of labor here below to dwell with Him in the realm above our devoted friend and brother,

ISAAC SCOTT POWELL

 And Whereas, our lodge by this removal has suffered an irreparable loss, our country a stalwart citizen, the family a devoted husband and father, and the state a patriotic citizen.

Therefore, be it resolved by Caddo Lodge No. 3, A.F. & A. M. that every member wear the regulation mourning for a period for thirty days; that our charter be draped for the like period; that a Memorial page be set apart in our records containing a record his life and works; that a copy of this resolution be published in The Caddo Herald, and that a copy be furnished to his family.

Be it further resolved that we tender to his family and bereaved relatives our sincere condolence in their grief, that we ever hold in precious memory the record of his life so filled with good deeds, that while we mourn his passing we bow in humble submission to the will of the Grand Master who hath need of him above and that we take new courage from the example of his life among us and continue to put our trust in Him who doeth all things well.

Each year I watch people stop along old roadways or in pastures and dig up Indian paintbrush. Please, please do NOT dig it up. I can almost guarantee that you cannot transplant it to your property. If you dig it up it will die before it can find another host.

Downtown Today

I stepped away from the newspapers for a few hours this morning and worked on two of the flower beds downtown. For those of you who are local- yes, I will get to the park beds soon! Between our strange weather and my eye problems I have gotten behind.
