A little news…
Prof. C. P. Abbott and excellent family have returned to Caddo. Prof. Abbot will again be principal of the public schools of Caddo. Last year the work conducted by him was successful and we trust another good term will be had.
The nine months old child of Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Wheeler died Monday evening at six o’clock. The remains were interred in the Caddo cemetery Tuesday evening. The family have the sympathy of the community in their bereavement.
Mrs. Jim C. Moore and children of Kingston, I. T. and Mrs. J. J. Cunningham and niece Miss Clara Mebane of Paris, Texas, returned to their homes last Sunday after a pleasant visit to their brother and sister, Mr. and Mrs. S. W. Maytubby.
The last order which we will make for enlarging pictures will be made on September 15th. All parties holding our coupons will please bring them in by that time or they will be valueless. Abney & Vincent
Our public school starts Monday. Every child in town of school age should be on the ground Monday morning when “books” are called. We have every promise of a successful year and it is necessary that every aid be given the teacher to make this promise good.
The electric light plant started their light regularly Monday night. The service is excellent and many new lights are added every day. The plant is a thing that has long been needed here and our people are pleased with them. Over four hundred lights to start on is pretty good.
Next Sunday the Katy will run an excursion to Galveston. The fare from Caddo and return will be $7.00, good returning until September 15th. The train will leave Caddo 5:01 Sunday evening and arrive in Galveston the next morning at 11 o’clock. This is a fine opportunity to visit the Gulf.
Strayed or stolen on Aug. 7th, one setter bird bitch, with leather collar with brass knobs, and small brass lock attached. Body white, head and ears black with long hair. Will pay liberal reward for return of animal to the Herald office at Caddo. J. B. Turner
Capt. Ellis calls the members of Camp Cooper U.C. V. to meet at Caddo on Saturday, September 12th for the purpose of ascertaining whether or not it is desirable to hold an old confederate reunion at Caddo some time in October. All members of the camp are requested to com. The thing is important.
