Yes, I went to Heritage Day yesterday. Yes, it was absolutely WONDERFUL- great weather, good food, lots of things to see and do. And yes, I am LATE posting photos. Of course it started raining just as I started posting last night...
So here are a few photos and there are more in the album on the left. Feel free to contact me if you want copies or you want to inquire if I took a photo of something or someone, especially the run. I took 400 photos yesterday and I have photos of nearly every runner in the 5K.
What a fun day Larry and I had at Heritage Day. Thank you to all the people that keep this going. We thought the parade was grand and was suprised by the number of participants. We especially enjoyed the children. Thats who keeps the community alive and going. As we casually strolled through the museum, stopping to pause here and there when something especially caught our attention, I was suddenly reduced to a sobbing six year old when I spotted a picture of my father. It was a photo that I had never seen. He was standing in his front yard waiting on a customer, who was Pickney Williams. Pickney was buying potatoes which were piled in a mound under a shade tree in the front yard. That was Daddy's custom. He piled then there and they were soon gone. I'm sure the only reason this picture is in the museum is because of who he was standing next to, but I think if anyone should be honored it should be my father. He didn't live in Bryan county but countless Bryan county residents sat down to countless meals grown especially for them by my father.
Thanks again to all those who had a part in this day. See you next year,
Larry and Juanita Hamilton
