I want to take a break from Caddo’s history and give some much-needed praise to the Caddo Educational Foundation. I sat in on their annual meeting last night. They are doing a splendid job of helping Caddo graduates achieve their college goals. This year they will award thirteen scholarships to qualified candidates. The scholarships are modest-$400 per semester- but certainly appreciated by the students. At the very least it helps them buy books, which aren’t usually covered by a lot of other grants and awards.
You can help the Foundation in two ways. You can join the group, as Gary and I did last night. The membership dues are $25 and the whole group only meets once a year. If you join a committee or become an officer you might have to meet a couple of other times. What could be easier? You give your money to a very worthy cause and next year you meet with the group to make decisions about the new scholarships.
You can donate any amount of money you like to the scholarship fund. Someone at the meeting said that she always donates to the fund instead of buying flowers for someone’s funeral. I think that is great! And I plan to do the same in the future. The Foundation will send a card to the family, telling them that a donation has been made in the name of the loved one. What a wonderful way to remember someone, especially if they graduated from Caddo. Someone else suggested just making a monthly donation when you put your paycheck in the bank. If you donated $10 per month you would be making a significant annual contribution to the fund!
If you are a Caddo alumni I would encourage you to make a donation as a "thank you" to your favorite teacher! If he or she is still alive and in the area I'm sure the Foundation would be happy to report your contribution.
You may contact the Foundation or make a donation by writing to them at P.O. Box 82, Caddo, Oklahoma, 74729. You may also make a donation through Shamrock Bank the next time you do your banking. Just tell them you want to donate some money to the future of Caddo!
