Another Old Timer Goes to His Reward
Scott Powell died at his home in Durant Saturday afternoon at 5 o’clock after an attack of apoplexy the day before. The funeral was held in the Presbyterian Church, conducted by Rev. I.W. Armstrong, pastor of the Methodist Church, at 2 o’clock Monday afternoon, internment in Durant Cemetery.
Scott Powel formerly lived in and near Caddo. His father, E.L. Powell, and brother, Hatsell Powell, live west of town and another brother, Will Powell, lives near the fish hatchery south of town. His sister, Mrs. H.D. Pierson, lives in Caddo, another sister, Mrs. George H. Frazier, in Calera.
About fifteen years ago Mr. Powell joined the Methodist Church and since that time was one of its faithful members. He was well known in Woodman and other fraternal circles for many years. For the last eight years he was engaged in the garage business in Durant.
He was stricken Friday afternoon at his place of business, but at first did not seem to be seriously ill.
The Herald extends sympathy to the sorrowing relatives and friends and points them for comfort to his life of service and helpfulness and to his religious profession. He was a good man, a good citizen, a true friend, and useful to the community.
