Hugh Huddleston is Adopted by Indian Tribe, Ponca City
Ponca City, Okla., Feb. 25- Hugh Huddleston, Caddo, Oklahoma was adopted as an honorary member of the Ponca Tribe of Indians in special tribal ceremonies at a dinner held here this week in connection with Continental Oil Company’s Dealer Guest Week program.
Upon agreement to comply with tribal code, Huddleston was presented with a beautiful, specially designed Shea-Gea-Thea, certificate of honorary membership signed by Horse Chief Eagle, hereditary chief.
This unique honor was conferred upon Caddo Conoco dealer in recognition of the friendly spirit that has existed between the Ponca Tribe and Continental Oil Company ever since the company’s first Oklahoma oil discovery was made on lands of these Indians. His adoption was made upon recommendation of the company.
Menus for the dinner were printed in Ponca Indian language and entertainment was furnished by tribal members, who presented some of their ceremonial dances.
