Roping Contest Abandoned
"Suspension of the roping and rough-riding contest and exhibition at McAlester Sunday by order of Governor Cruce through the instrumentality of Adjutant General Canton, came as a result of a protest by ministers of that city against violation of the Sunday law. But the sentiment that developed against the sport resulted in abandonment of the program.
General Canton said that the promoters of the contest discontinued it upon request and one of them told him that he would not attempt to make any other exhibitions anywhere in the future; that the day of this sort of thing seems to have passed with the open range. "
