I often have tiny notes and bits of news tucked into my files that don’t relate to anything in particular, at least for now. I thought it might be fun to just throw some of them out here to see if they help anyone, or just add to our overall enjoyment and understanding of Caddo’s history. I’m sure every note will one day find it’s rightful place in a story or biography. (If any of these are already repeated elsewhere, I apologize.)
Caddo International News, Feb. 28, 1877
“The Saint James Hotel is being painted, which gives it a very fine appearance.”
“Died, Feb. 19, eight miles west of Caddo: Ben Cox, son of Hugh Cox.”
Caddo Free Press, Jan. 24, 1879
“J.H. Mershon, deputy U.S. Marshall, came in Monday, and relieved deputy Marshall Clay of two prisoners he had secured- one for larceny, the other for introducing whiskey.”

“The roller skating rink opened in the Pace building this week.”

“W.L. Guthrie arrived here Tuesday morning and took charge of the W.F. Dodd stock of drugs and jewelry.”

Ben Siegel & Co. Dry Goods, of Kenefick, is listed as the sponsor of a local contest for farmers. (Two stores? or had he moved?)

“Most all of Caddo went to Durant Saturday night to see the KKK parade.”
