“Congratulations- you have been funded for your $75,000 CDBG grant project.”
Those are the words that I heard and read earlier this week. We are getting our Century Community Grant to put in new sidewalks and lamp posts from downtown to the Shamrock Bank at the end of Buffalo Street! $75,000! That’s huge, enormous, tremendous…and a small portion of what we need. Isn’t that the strangest thing? We can’t imagine what we would do with that much money in our own bank account. But when you start spending it on community projects it doesn’t go very far. Don’t get me wrong. I’m so, so grateful. This is a big step for our town. I think the new sidewalks and lamp posts will be beautiful! But it’s just the beginning of what we want to accomplish, what we CAN accomplish.
The mission of TRAC is to provide visionary leadership, focus on historical preservation, and promote economic growth to enrich the quality of life in our community.
TRAC is researching more grants and planning more projects. Future goals include renovation of both community buildings, improvement of Boland Park, upgrading the pavilion, and preservation of downtown buildings. TRAC is also involved in supporting our school and training leaders for tomorrow. We want to establish a community service scholarship program for our young people. We want to help anywhere there is a need in our community.
We’ll be asking for your support, and yes, for your money. If you live in town we might even knock on your door and ask you for your time and help with a project. We’re in this together now. It’s time for the citizens of Caddo and the alumni of Caddo and the former residents of Caddo to join together to preserve, promote, and improve this great little town. I want my great-grandchildren to be able to visit and walk downtown and see the buildings where my great-grandparents shopped and worked. I want everyone in our community to be able to live and work in a peaceful, beautiful environment. I want our children to have places to play and learn. I want former residents to return. I want tourists to stop and shop. I want…
I want YOU to be involved.
I want you to care as much about my adopted hometown as I do.

Thanks for continuing to read about my hometown. This weekend I’ll be taking on the job of managing the Caddo website for TRAC. I’ll keep you posted and include the link here as soon as it’s ready.
