Updates

        I have a couple of new photos to post. One is the downtown flowerbed and the other is the "hill" (taken yesterday). Also have a bit of news. The gentleman who is interested in developing the corner (and tearing down our hill) called me. He plans to attend the next CCA meeting and explain his intentions. Should be interesting.

       Many of you have heard by now that the Caddo Nursing Home closed its doors. Sad, sad situation. The 30+ residents were transferred to other facilities and the employees have found other jobs, but the closure is a bitter disappointment for the citizens of Caddo. The home was operated by the Bryan County Home Authority. Due to mismanagement or something more serious, the home owes $700,000 to the IRS, USDA, banks, and vendors. There are lots of stories, rumors, and news items about it. I'm sure it will take months of investigation to get to the truth of the problem. In the meantime prayers are needed for everyone involved.

       Members of TRAC are driving the streets of Caddo seeking candidates for the next "Yard of the Month". Voting will take place next week. Bill Boydstun constructed an attractive new metal sign and Belinda Davison is busy painting it.

       The Caddo Community Association will be hosting its annual Senior Dinner, June 10 at 6pm in the Nazarene Church activity building. The decoration theme for this year will be the “Roaring Twenties”. Residents of Caddo who are eighty years old or over will be treated to an evening of food, fellowship, and fond memories. CCA will be providing brisket, bread, tea, and coffee. Seniors and their families are encouraged to bring side dishes and desserts.

The Hill

      I've been compiling a "project book" for TRAC and found this picture of the flower bed across from the DQ. The photo was taken the day we (CCA) finished construction. I'm not sure of the year, but "the hill" as we refer to it, is at least ten years old. We recently planted red zinnias and yellow lantana in the beds. They are beginning to establish themselves and actually look much more colorful than this new photo taken last week indicates.

     But I thought you might like a transition photo. I'll take more tomorrow when we water them. Maintaining the hill has been a challenge. We connect 300 feet of water hoses to the DQ faucet and drag them across the highway and up the hill twice a week. Our hope has always been that someday a water system would be developed for it. Now we face a new challenge. Someone has apparently purchased the adjoining property for a new business and wants permission from the state to level the hill so that their view won't be obstructed. I understand the need for a business to be seen. However, I may have to voice an objection to destroying our little bright spot unless we can reach a compromise on a new location for our flowers. We'll see. In the meantime enjoy the view!

Back Online

Where to start?? You can read about my computer adventures by clicking on my other blog. I hope everyone hasn’t given up on me. We’ve been busy in Caddo even though I haven’t been able to post.

Our grant application was completed and submitted. Pray that we get it so we can start our sidewalk project.

The sign for the new bulletin board is in place and people are beginning to use it and read it when they go to the Post Office. The spacing may look a little "off", but that's because the actual words are written in between.

The Beautification and Preservation Committee chose a “yard of the month” for May and placed a sign in front of the recipients home. The whole family was thrilled. Just TRAC’s way of encouraging everyone to make Caddo more attractive. (I thought about posting the photo and names, but decided that might be an invasion of their privacy since I’d failed to have them sign a model release. I may check with them this week and post it later.)

We’re starting to improve the corner of our eastern entry. That’s me in the red shirt working with our B&P crew. We plan to plant daylilies and wildflowers as soon as the ground is prepared. In the next few days I’ll post pictures of the DQ flower bed and the poppies in front of the theater.

My husband took some great new shots of our downtown buildings. I especially like this one. 

More in the next few days. I’ve only been back online for a few hours. It will take time to “catch up”. Thanks for being patient.

Problems

I've had a major computer problem and my pc is in the shop. Lots to post when it gets back. We are working on a new flower bed. There is a restaurant in town for sale. We just chose the "yard of the month" for May. We have a new sign for the bulletin board. There are two new houses under construction. There is a rumor of a new business coming to town. Stay tuned and I hope to post soon.
